Interim vs Full vs Major Service — Which Does Your Car Need?

"Service" isn't a one-size-fits-all term, and choosing the wrong level can mean either overpaying or missing something important. Here's the difference, in plain English.
Interim Service
Best for cars covering higher mileage or used mainly for short trips. Typically includes an oil and filter change plus a check of key safety items — brakes, tyres, lights, fluid levels. Recommended roughly every 6 months or 6,000 miles if you drive a lot.
Full Service
The most popular option for most drivers, usually carried out annually or every 12,000 miles. Covers everything in an interim service plus a wider range of checks: air filter, spark plugs inspection, suspension, exhaust, and more, giving a thorough health check of the vehicle.
Major Service
The most comprehensive option, recommended every 2 years or 24,000 miles. Includes everything in a full service plus replacement of items like the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, and brake fluid — the parts that wear out over a longer cycle but are easy to forget about.
Not sure which one you need?
It depends on your car's age, mileage, and how it's driven. We're happy to advise honestly on the right level for your vehicle rather than upselling you to the most expensive option — and we offer a free MOT when you book a Full Service.
